The Joys of Wildlife Gardening

[this is good]
Two guides: Butterflies through Binoculars and Dragonflies through Binoculars. And binoculars! They're the best prosthetic ever. Look for the lever-action ("Insta-Focus") type if those work better for you; they tend to be inexpensive too. 7X35 to start with is pretty good. You'll be wanting a bird guide too, but even one of those laminated cards with local birds on it will help at first.

How big are your trees? I might be able to help.

There's a burgeoning permaculture bud up at Merritt College, and the place is congenial overall.

I'm in south Berkeley too. I blog at http://toad.faultline.org and publish in the Daily (or whatever this month) Planet. I'd love to lay eyes on your garden!
Ron, I'm so sorry it's taken me this long to respond to your kind comments. I noticed them immediately and recognized your name from your articles in the Planet and the Chron. How honored I am that you even noticed my desolate little blog. There's been a lot of emotional upheaval in my life so I haven't been as active online as I usual am, nor as good at responding to people.

Most of the trees in my yard are still young. I moved in in late 2004 so some date to then and others have been planted since. There are two well-established trees: an avocado and a fig. The fig bears well, the avocado hasn't borne a thing. You're welcome to lay your eyes on my garden anytime you wish. I have to say it's all looking very shaggy right now as my disability makes it hard to keep up with maintaining it all myself or being able to pay others to do the hard stuff for me.
